This trek will give you the chance to discover the many landscapes of the Langhe and visit some of the most beautiful and characteristic villages in the area.
The first part of the journey takes place almost entirely along the vineyards that have made this region famous throughout the world; here the Barolo wine is the absolute protagonist, and the rows of Nebbiolo grapes extend as far as the eye can see. Villages and castles stand on the tops of the hills, inviting you to stop and enjoy a good glass of wine and a tonic snack. The second part of the journey will take you to the wildest part of the region, the Alta Langa, where the protagonist is the hazelnut, whose Piedmont variety is considered one of the best in the world; woods, hazelnut groves and deep valleys mark the journey to Cortemilia, the final destination of your holiday.
1st day Individual arrival in Alba
2nd day transfer Alba – Grinzane; trekking to Barolo: approx. 13 km / approx. 3.5 hours
In the morning a taxi will take you to the castle of Grinzane; from here you begin the walk to Gallo d'Alba, then through the vineyards of La Morra, to end in Barolo.
3rd day Barolo – Novello – Monforte: approx. 9 km/approx. 2.5 hours
Today's route runs almost entirely through the Nebbiolo vineyards; we first reach Novello, dominated by the imposing castle, then we reach Monforte, where we can relax and enjoy a good glass of wine in the town's central square.
4th day Monforte – Cissone: approx. 16 km/ approx. 4.5 hours
Today we pass through the villages of Serrallunga, Sinio, Roddino and Cissone; in addition to the usual rows of vines, we begin to encounter the first hazelnut trees, typical of the Alta Langa, and some slightly wilder wooded areas; it is worth stopping in Serralunga to visit the castle.
5th day Cissone, rest day or circular tour.
Today you can choose between a short circular tour around this pretty village, or relax on the terrace of your agriturismo.
6th day Cissone – Cravanzana: approx. 17 km/ approx. 5 hours
We are in the heart of Alta Langa, famous for its hazelnuts; the landscape is characterized by the extensive cultivation of this precious fruit and by the deep Belbo valley, which we cross after stopping at the beautiful church of Cerretto Langhe, to reach Cravanzana.
7th day Cravanzana – Cortemilia: approx. 12 km/ approx. 3.5 hours
From Cravanzana begins a nice downhill stretch to Torre Bormida, where we cross the river of the same name, then we climb to Bergolo, one of the smallest and best preserved municipalities of the Alta Langa; from here on we continue along an easy path through the woods to Cortemilia, an ancient village whose origins date back to Roman times.
8th day Cortemilia. End of the trip after breakfast; possible return by bus (except Sunday) or taxi to Alba.
